Today I was fortunate to photograph this juvenile male northern harrier, also known as the marsh hawk on a sunny but cold winter afternoon.
After watch a pair of northern harriers hunting patterns I moved into what looked like a feeding lane. They had passed this section of field twice, and on the third time around I was there sitting in a few feet of snow, partially hidden against logs and a few small pine trees waiting for them.
Photographed using the Nikon D1H & Nikkor 300mm f/4 lens.
In this photo he is heading right at me!
Very close fly by….
